Emergency personnel responded to an anhydrous ammonia leak north of Brownton Monday night, an incident that lasted into the early morning hours on Tuesday.
The leak was reported at about 10:54 p.m. and occurred in a farm field on Plum Avenue, north of 90th Street, about a mile north of Brownton.
An equipment issue allowed the ammonia to leak, and a heavy, dense fog kept the ensuing “cloud” close to the ground. Because of the dense fog, there were some vehicles that accidentally drove into the cloud before retreating.
