The Stewart City Council was pleased Monday night to learn that bids for the street and utility improvement project had come in much lower than anticipated.
Engineer Andy Kehren of Bolton & Menk said the city had received six bids, the lowest coming from LaTour Construction, Inc., of Maple Lake, in the amount of $2.72 million, which was 9 percent lower than the engineer’s estimate of $2.93 million.
The proposed project includes work on Powers, Croyden, Grove, Bowman, Mowbray, East, Herbert and South streets.
